Frequently Asked Questions

AREN'T MY POINTS POSTED RIGHT AFTER THE TOURNAMENT IS OVER?

For those of you filling out Membership Applications and Points Forms at the trailer before an event, it takes up to 48 hours for your information to be updated onto the SKA website. This is because all new or renewing membership applications completed at the tournament site must be entered into our database by an SKA Admin. If you'd like to take advantage of the new technology we've implemented within our site, you can Join or Renew your membership at any time online. Once you're properly registered as a current member by the SKA Admin, your Points are accounted for. The same SKA Admin will review your team's SKA Points Form and input the information according to your signed form. Once all information is uploaded accurately the status of that tournament's standings and points will change from "Pending" to "Official." This entire process usually takes up to 48 hours to complete, depending on how many forms the SKA Admin has to enter for that particular weekend. Once again, if you would like to bypass this administrative process and see your Points immediately after the conclusion of a tournament, your Team Captain can access the SKA Points Form online. SKA Points Forms are free when completed online and must be submitted by 11:59pm the night of that particular Tournament's Captains Meeting.

WHAT IF I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT MY POINTS FORM AFTER TOURNAMENT? WHAT IF I NEED TO MAKE EDITS?

Please have your copy of the SKA Points Form and your tournament weigh slip available as you may be required to fax or email a copy of both for verification. Once again, you'll need to speak with an SKA Staff member to have any changes applied to your Points Form.

AREN'T SOME OF THE SMALL BOATS AT A DISADVANTAGE?

Since our anglers have the opportunity to select their boat and motor, it's true that the playing field will never be completely even. However, the SKA works very hard with tournament directors to ensure that small boats are compensated for their hard work! The boat manufacturers that build smaller boats have designed some models that push the limits of our rules, but do not break them. For this reason we now use Length Over All as a classification denominator. This class is continuing to grow and succeed and truly is the future of the sport. See the Rules for more details.

WHY SHOULD I RENEW MY SKA MEMBERSHIP BEFORE THE FIRST TOURNAMENT IN MY DIVISION?

The SKA has made a lot of changes help improve our members' registration process. Registering for your SKA Membership online helps to do the following:

  1. Expedites membership registration by avoiding lines

  2. Check-in to tournaments online

  3. Set up auto-renewal

I'VE BEEN A MEMBER OF THE SKA BEFORE; HOW CAN I RENEW?

Signing up online is easy! If you prefer to renew in person, you can also renew your membership at the SKA trailer (during any one of our sanctioned events' Captains Meetings).

IF I AM A MEMBER (CAPTAIN), WHY DO MY CREW MEMBERS NEED TO JOIN THE SKA?

The Southern Kingfish Association is built on TEAMS; teams of families, friends and neighbors. One of the key highlights to being involved in the SKA is being able to share the experience, the exciting titles and accomplishments, with your teammates.

On a more technical note, if your boat qualifies to attend the National Championship, only SKA Competition Members will be allowed to fish. Furthermore, each team member must be on record for fishing two SKA sanctioned events prior to Nationals that year.

WHO SHOULD I TALK TO IF I HAVE A QUESTION ABOUT THE RULES?

You can either speak with one of the SKA representatives during a tournament, or you can call the SKA office directly at 252-622-4789 and ask to speak to the Director of Operations. We're open Monday through Friday, and we're more than happy to help!
